Torok makes big splash in first ever track and field meet

The Hillcrest Ravens track and field teams had their first outdoor meet Monday in Columbus Junction at the Columbus Early Bird.  Junior exchange student Anna Torok made a big splash for the girls team by medaling in three events at her first ever track and field meet.  Torok placed third in the 100 meter dash in 14.55.  She was fourth in the long jump with 14 feet 2.5 inches.  And she was fifth in the 200 meter dash in 31.36.  Erin Bontrager also ran the 200 meter dash in 35.37.  Bontrager ran the 400 meter dash in 1:23.00.  Freshman Claire Withrow competed well in the 800 meter run placing sixth in 3:18.57.

Freshman Owen Scott recorded two personal bests in the running events at the Columbus Early Bird.  Scott placed fourth in the 400 meter dash in 58.69 and seventh in the 200 meter dash in 25.70.  Scott also tied his personal best jump in the long jump by jumping nineteen feet three and one half inches for ninth place in a very competitive long jump field.  Five boys jumped over 20 feet.  Scott cleared five feet ten inches for fifth place in the high jump.  This is his best outdoor high jump ever.  Jesse Blossom took eight seconds off his 800 meter personal best with a 2:23.73 for fourth place in the event.  Blossom placed sixth in the 1600 meter run in 5:49.96.  The Ravens track and field teams compete next at Mediapolis April 4.
