Research Students Participate In Mock Interviews

Passing research class is one of the time honored traditions and milestones here at Hillcrest Academy. Rarely do students finish the course saying that they liked the experience. However, it’s even more rare for students to say that they didn’t learn something useful and applicable! Besides just learning how to do research and writing a scholarly research paper, another unit in the course covers career skills. Students check out an online job board to read job descriptions, decide which positions to apply for, practice writing professional emails, learn how to neatly and fully fill out applications, create a resume, and more. The culmination of all of that hard work and effort is a mock interview day wherein students have the chance to do two interviews with area employers.

This year’s mock interview day was Tuesday, December 6, and Hillcrest Academy was thrilled to have seven area businesses participate. Teacher Andrea Farrier says she appreciates that the students get feedback from other people about real-world career skills. One employer who participated this year said it gave him good practice in interviewing skills, and last year there were a couple of real job offers made because the mock interviews went so well! The entire simulation is a lot of work for students, but definitely worth the effort. Like so many other experiences here, the career unit is just one more way that Hillcrest and the community work together to prepare today’s students to be tomorrow’s leaders.
