We began the season of Advent on November 28th using the main theme of “Restoration is Near”. The first week’s emphasis was “Hope”.

On Monday, November 28, we discussed the meaning of Advent and how we will work with the themes through the rest of the semester. Then in our small groups, we did an Advent Kahoot .

On Tuesday, we met in our small groups.

Wednesday’s chapel featured an exploration into the scripture for the week, Romans 13:11-14. We then viewed a video by the Skit Guys which demonstrated the process of spiritual renewal.

On Thursday, we were privileged to hear from Terry Zimmerly, one of the pastors at First Mennonite Church in Iowa City. Terry shared a variety of scriptures on our theme of Hope for the week and had us discuss various ways to apply them.

Friday’s chapel was when we discussed our upcoming Service and Learning Term (SALT), which will be in March, 2023. The leader(s) of each group described what the activities of the group will be. Then students were given the forms to fill out for their choices.

On Monday, December 5, we introduced and discussed the scripture for the week, Matthew 3:1-12, and the theme of the week which was Peace.

There was no chapel time on Tuesday because of a planned late start.

Wednesday’s chapel featured an exploration of our scripture and where the story of John the Baptist fits into the bigger story of the Bible.

On Thursday, we were privileged to hear from Steve Nelson, one of the pastors at Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Steve shared on the theme of peace.

Friday’s chapel was a preview of the music concert which will be held on Sunday. Mike Jewell, music teacher, led the choir in a few of the numbers that will be a part of the program on Sunday.
