Wise and Foolish Builders: Chapel Sept. 5-9

Wise and Foolish Builders: Chapel Sept. 5-9

As we begin to explore the theme of Joy through this year, we are looking at various parables of Jesus during the month of September. Our emphasis in chapel this week has been on the parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders. This parable is found in Matthew 7:24-27 and Luke 6:47-49.

Monday – Labor Day, no school

On Tuesday, we met in small groups. This was just the second meeting in this setting, so we were encouraged to continue to work on getting to know each other in our groups.

We began to explore the parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders on Wednesday. After reading through both versions of the parable, we viewed the Veggie Tale interpretation of the story. It was a great reminder of what kind of foundation we are building on.

Thursday’s chapel followed up on our reading of the parable. Since Jesus uses the parable to illustrate what it’s like when people hear his words and either do what he says or not, we looked at several passages that led up to this story. We divided into small groups with each group working on a passage where Jesus gives a directive of some kind. We compiled a list of what it was that Jesus was saying.

On Friday, Bryn Hovde, Art instructor, led us in looking at how Jesus and Jesus’ teachings give us direction as the ultimate destination for our journey of faith and what that looks like. We first observed the list that was compiled the day before by groups and considered areas of growth for ourselves. Then Bryn discussed how Jesus gives us what we need to put our faith into action.
