Jesus Heals the Blind: Chapel May 2-13

Nemi Chigoji shares about working for peace

Our chapels at Hillcrest Academy for these two weeks have represented a variety of emphases. The scripture we worked with for some of the chapels was John 9:1-41, the story of Jesus healing the man born blind.

On Monday, May 2, we were privileged to have with us Nemi Chigoji, the director of of the Nigerian Anabaptist Peace Center of Upland California and Nigeria. Nemi shared with us about working for peace.

Tuesday’s chapel time was in small groups.

For Wednesday’s chapel, we read through the John 9 passage using a reader’s theatre. We then responded to discussion questions in our small groups.

Thursday’s chapel time was spent writing affirmation notes to each other.

Friday was a hymn sing in the Celebration Hall foyer. Song requests were given by small groups.

On Monday, May 9, we were privileged to have Steven Jimenez with us to share about the John 9 passage.

We were in our small groups for our chapel time for Tuesday.

Wednesday’s chapel was a preview of our upcoming music department concert on Sunday.

On Thursday, the Hillcrest Academy Praise Band led in worship through song. The senior Praise Band members were recognized for their involvement: Julia Boller (2 years), Ivana Ebersole (4 years), Samara Jimenez (1 year), Noah Miller (4 years), and Jacob Smith Derksen (2 years).

Dick Yoder-Short wrapped up our chapel week by sharing thoughts on the relationship of science and faith. We approach both with humility and wonder.
