Ravens track continues to improve at SEISC meet

Thursday the Hillcrest Academy track and field teams competed at the Southeast Iowa Super conference meet in Wayland.  This is the second year WACO has hosted the conference meet that features all teams from both the north and south divisions of the conference.  The Hillcrest girls team placed eighth of nine teams in the north division.  Leah Bontrager and Malia Yoder led the way with three second place finishes in individual events.  Leah finished second in both the 800 meter and 1500 meter runs.  Her time of 2:30.63 in the 800 is a new personal best.  She also lowered her season best to 5:33.35 in the 1500.  Malia tied her previous best jump of four feet eight inches.  The distance medley relay team of Yoder, Morgyn Nafziger, Delaney Shaw and Bontrager also placed second with a time of 4:51.99.  Yoder and Shaw placed fifth and sixth in the 200 meter dash in 30.24 and 30.38 seconds respectively.  Nafziger was seventh in the 100 meter dash in a new personal best time of 14.08 seconds.  Erin Bontrager also lowered her best 100 meter time to 15.91 seconds. Her 400 meter time of 1:24.03 was good for tenth place.  Shaw was seventh in the long jump with a best jump of fourteen feet four and one quarter inch.  The 4 x 400 meter relay of Yoder, Nafziger, Erin Bontrager and Shaw also placed seventh.

Quang Huynh continues to lower his times in the sprint events.  He placed twelfth in the 100 meter dash in a new personal best time of 12.97 seconds.  He was eleventh in the 200 meter dash in 26.80.  Huynh also lowered his 400 meter best time to 1:04.00.  He placed ninth in the event.  

The Ravens compete next at the 1A state qualifier meet in Sigourney next Thursday May 12.  There are ten qualifier meets in 1A.  Each event winner automatically qualifies to compete in the State meet held the following week.  The next fourteen best marks in 1A state qualifier meets across the state also qualify for the state meet.  Go Ravens!
