April 25-29 Chapels Focus on John 8:1-11

Joel Beachy

This week in our chapels, we have been focusing on John 8:1-11, the story of the woman caught in adultery.

On Monday, we read the scripture and then art instructor Bryn Hovde led us in viewing a Rembrandt painting of the scene from John 8:1-11. We then responded to discussion questions in our small groups.

Tuesday’s chapel time was spent in our small groups.

Wednesday featured Pastor Joel Beachy from East Union Mennonite Church. Joel talked about our story and challenged us to drop our self-righteous rocks and allow God to transform them into a foundation for compassion.

On Thursday, we viewed an “I Am Second” video which told the story of Annie Lobert. Through seeking approval from and then revenge on men, Annie suffering through a life of prostitution and drugs until she cried out to Jesus. She was miraculously saved from a drug overdose and now ministers to women who are trapped as she was.

Friday’s chapel time was spent in reflection on our scripture and what we hear God saying to us through what we’ve experienced and heard this week.
