Track & Field continue to break personal records

The Hillcrest Raven girls track and field team established or tied seven personal records Thursday in Wayland at the Ekstrand Relays hosted by WACO.  The team placed seventh of ten teams in the class B division.  Leah Bontrager and Malia Yoder were both event winners.  Malia won the class B high jump by clearing the bar at four feet eight inches equaling her previous personal best.  Leah won the 800 meter run in a personal best time of 2:32.32.  She finished ahead of all the large school class A and small school class B runners.  Leah was awarded the Kevin Walters memorial plaque for winning the event.  Kevin was a record holding middle distance runner for WACO.  The distance medley team of Yoder, Morgyn Nafziger, Delaney Shaw and Bontrager placed second in the B division with a time of 4:51.99.  Delaney Shaw placed fourth in a personal best time of 29.80 seconds in the 200.  She also placed fourth in the long jump.  Morgyn Nafziger was fourth in the 100 meter dash finishing in 14.11 seconds which was a big personal record.  Malia Yoder also had a personal best in the 100 meter dash finishing in sixth place in 14.41 seconds.  The 4 x 100 meter relay team of Nafziger, Shaw, Erin Bontrager and Yoder placed fifth in 58.67 seconds.  Erin also recorded personal bests in both the 200 and 400 meter dashes.

Quang Huynh had a huge night recording personal best in all three of his events.  He shaved .06 seconds off his previous 100 meter best time by finishing in 13.15 seconds.  He took nearly one second off his best 200 meter time crossing the line in 26.56 seconds.  But his biggest improvement came in the 400 meter dash where he slashed three seconds from his best time.  His new personal best is 1:04.02. 

The Ravens compete next at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet in Wayland next Thursday May 5.  The meet begins at 4:00 p.m. and will feature both the north and south divisions.
