The Hillcrest Ravens picked up their first win of the season in a 5-0 victory against Highland behind two first half goals each from Diego Ramos and Jorge Canchola. Playing in a strong cross breeze, rain, and a little bit of snow, the Ravens overcame the miserable conditions and a high defensive line by the Highland to secure the victory. Highland stymied what offensive pressure the Ravens generated by successfully utilizing the offsides trap.

Towards the end of the first half after some adjustments were made, Diego Ramos opened the scoring taking the ball deep into the box, beating a couple of defenders before slotting the ball by the goalie. Within the next minute, Collin Miller slid across the box where Ramos slotted it into the goal for the 2-0 lead.

Miller picked up his second assist of the night four minutes later, this time getting the ball to Jorge Canchola who hammered the ball into the net. With just seconds left in the half, Ramos sent a through ball into the middle where Canchola took a touch and put the ball into the goal.

In the second half, Micah Gerber notched his first varsity goal crashing the box after a shot by Ramos was deflected by the goalie. Hillcrest created numerous chances during the rest of the half but failed to find the net.

Defensively, the back line of Grant Bender, Mason Bender, Andrew Starr and Bryce Bailey did a great job of shutting down the Highland offense. Aiden Krabill recorded two saves in the miserable conditions.

Hillcrest moves to 1-1 for the season and 1-0 in conference play. Hillcrest returns to action Friday, hosting perennial power Iowa City Regina. Game time is 6:00 pm.
