Feb. 28 – March 4 Chapels Usher in the Season of Lent
Our chapels this week involved a variety of themes, one of which was Ash Wednesday which ushered in the Season of Lent.
On Monday, we viewed a documentary entitled “LIKE: Finding Balance with Social Media.” The film documented how the usage of social media can have positive usages as well as negative. It concluded with ideas of how to take control of social media usage.
Tuesday’s chapel time was in small groups. Groups had the opportunity to respond to discussion questions based on the documentary that we viewed on Monday.
Wednesday was Ash Wednesday. David Heusinkveld, pastor at Wellman Mennonite Church shared with us the meaning of the ashes. Then he and chapel coordinator Lee Ebersole gave everyone the opportunity to have ashes placed on their forehead or hand.
Thursday’s chapel was led by Lee Ebersole. We used the Lectio Divina practice to read through John 12:20-28. The practice involves reading, prayer, and meditation on the passage.
On Friday, Lee Ebersole led a hymn sing using songs that had been suggested earlier in the week by students.
