The Birth of Jesus: Chapel Nov. 29 – Dec. 3

The Birth of Jesus: Chapel Nov. 29 – Dec. 3

We began our Advent series for our chapels this week. During the time of Advent, we are looking at stories around the birth of Jesus. This week, we worked with the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth and then began the stories of Mary and Joseph.

On Monday, we processed the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth from Luke 2:5-25. After gathering all together, we divided up into small groups to read the story and then respond to questions about that story.

Tuesday’s chapel time was spent in small groups.

During Wednesday’s chapel time, we heard several examples from students and a teacher of their connections with the story of Elizabeth and Zechariah.

Thursday’s chapel time was playing a game of charades between two teams: 9th and 11th graders vs. the 10th and 12th graders. The teams acted out different scenes from our story and then put them in order on a board.

On Friday, we began exploring the stories of Mary and Joseph. Pastor Christian Shields, pastor of Hillcrest 9th grader Sarah Farrier, 11th grader Rebecca Farrier, and English teacher Andrea Farrier spoke to us of the courage and humility of Mary to respond to the call of God to carry and give birth to Jesus. He challenged us to have the kind of response to whatever God is calling us to do.
