Homecoming Welcomes Back Alumni

Homecoming Welcomes Back Alumni

The sunshine was as bright as the smiles on alumni faces. After a year off due to the Covid-19 pandemic, campus was full again as Hillcrest Academy hosted Homecoming and Alumni Family Weekend on Oct 1-2. Director of Advancement, Jeremy Ours mentioned that our community is one which is built around fellowship and how good it felt to have folks back on campus.

The weekend kicked off Friday evening with two alumni sporting events. First, many alumni and their families gathered in Hillcrest Union to watch the alumni ladies play volleyball. Afterward, the alumni men took the pitch to play soccer. The sideline was full of fans there to watch. This fall was the 25 year anniversary of the 1996 fall soccer State team. This was the first soccer team in school history to make it to the State tournament. Members of the 1996 team were in attendance and were recognized at halftime of the game.

Saturday morning the Hillcrest Academy Alumni Association hosted the Joetown Classic. The event included a 5K race, a kids one-mile fun run and other kid’s activities including an inflatable obstacle course. Despite rainy weather, 55 runners and walkers participated. The overall male and female winners of the 5K race were Ravens cross-country coach, Marty Gingerich (20.54.90) of Parnell and Marie Yoder (24.56.88) of Frytown. As is tradition, the overall winners received a pan of homemade cinnamon rolls along with their medal.

Thank you to all who participated on (finally) a wonderful, sunny morning and to all our sponsors!

Saturday night the Hillcrest Academy junior class hosted the annual Pork Supper. Hungry alumni, their families, and community members were able to enjoy the traditional meal served to dine-in or as takeout.

The highlight of the weekend was the unveiling of the painting, ‘Hillcrest’ by Kara Lynn Schlabaugh ‘11. Signed, limited edition prints are available to purchase HERE. Don’t miss your chance to take home not only a wonderful piece of art, but a meaningful and visual part of school history.
