Striding Forward: Ravens Cross Country Make Big Improvement on Their Times
Senior Collin Miller led the Hillcrest Ravens at the Fairfield Invitational cross country meet held at Waterworks Park Thursday under clear skies with temperatures in the low 70s. Miller took nearly one minute off his Early Bird time from last week finishing in 20:39 for eighty-fourth place. Micah Gerber was the next Raven finisher clocking 20:57 for ninety-fifth place. Jesse Blossom was the teams’ number three runner finishing in 23:40 for one hundred fifty-seventh place. Blossom took 2:40 off his Early Bird time. Quang Huynh had Hillcrest’s biggest improvement from the Early Bird meet taking 3:50 off his previous personal best. Huynh finished in 26:37. Garrett Hurst was the Ravens fifth scoring runner finishing in 32:35. Hillcrest placed thirteenth in the field of thirteen full teams. Lance Sobaski of Washington was the individual winner finishing in 16:34. Danville-New London won the boys team title.

The Ravens girls cross country team showed a big improvement Thursday in Fairfield over their performances at the Early Bird meet last week. Each of the teams top three finishers took over two minutes off their time from the previous week. Senior Leah Bontrager had both teams top finish placing thirty-eighth in 23:48. Delaney Shaw placed ninety-ninth in 27:13 and Morgyn Nafziger placed one hundred twenty-fifth in 30:19. Julia Boller was three places back completing the course in 31:10. Clear Creek-Amana won the team title by a mere four points over Washington. Haidyn Barker from Clear Creek-Amana won the individual title in 20:47. The Ravens compete next at Noll Ridge Country club in North English Tuesday, September 14.
