Hillcrest Soccer Clinch the Win in First Round of Substate Play

Senior Dominic Bouse

Hillcrest scored two goals in a minute’s time late in the first half to clinch the win against Central Lee in the first round of substate play. After some back and forth play,  Hillcrest began applying constant pressure which paid off when Aidan Yoder sent a ball forward to Eli Ours who got the ball wide to Jorge Canchola. In some nice give and go action, Canchola combined with Noah Miller before cutting the ball back and beating the goalie to the near post. A minute later, Yoder again sent the ball forward where it eventually was controlled by Miller. Miller slotted a pass to Will Kolck who beat his man to the inside before rocketing a shot into the net for the 2-0 lead.

The defense took it from there as the back line of Grant Bender, Aidan Yoder, Aaron Hershberger and Andrew Starr shut down the majority of Central Lee’s chances. Playing well throughout the game, Eli Ours along with John Hughes, Dominic Bouse and Collin Miller helped control the midfield. Hillcrest did create chances and found the net twice only to have both goals waved off by an interesting offsides call or penalty.

Hillcrest next gets the privilege of facing  #1 ranked Burlington Notre Dame in Burlington, Monday, May 24 at 6:30. With the win Hillcrest moves to 9-5.
