The Hillcrest Ravens dominated much of the possession against Cedar Valley Christian but found it difficult to put the ball in the net, coming up with a 1-0 win, despite recording twelve shots on goal and another thirteen shots that were off target. The defensive unit led by Eli Ours, along with Grant Bender, Andrew Starr and Aidan Yoder consistently limited Cedar Valley’s chances while Aaron Hershberger, starting his first game in goal had seven saves to record a clean sheet in the shutout.

On the offensive end, Noah Miller playing at center mid and John Hughes at forward combined to create numerous chances only to see the Cedar Valley goalie make several fine saves. Noah Miller tallied the lone goal of the game with seven minutes left in the first half when he gathered in a throw-in from Dominic Bouse, then beat two defenders before launching a shot from about 20 yards out that caromed into the goal off the bottom of the crossbar.

In the second half, Hillcrest continued to create offensive chances but struggled to put the ball in the net. With several guys gone, four members of the golf team helped in Saturday’s match. One of them, Luke Schrock scored on a pass from Noah Miller, only to have the goal waved off for offsides. Golfers, London Schrock along with Jace Rempel also got off a couple of shots during the match.

Hillcrest improves to 2-2 overall. Hillcrest returns to action Thursday, hosting Mediapolis at 6:00 pm.
