Ravens Run at Mepo in Preparation for State Qualifier

Leah Bontrager again had a strong performance Thursday at the Mediapolis Cross Country Invitational Thursday.  Bontrager placed fourth with a time of 22:17.  The meet was held at Big Hollow Recreation Area on mostly grassy technical trails.  It is not a course for fast times.  Julia Boller was next for the Ravens placing twenty-fourth in 27:06.  Kennedy Roth was the team’s number three runner placing thirty-sixth in 29:15. Next was Taryn Leichty in fortieth place in thirty-one flat.  Hannah Chalupa had a great race placing forty-fourth in 35:15.  Hillcrest placed fifth in the five team field.  Pekin won the team title with Amanda Gilpin of Central Lee taking the individual honors finishing in 21:31.

Collin Miller pulled away from teammate Will Kolck in the final mile of the Mediapolis Invitational to lead the way for the Ravens.  The teammates ran the first two miles together before Miller ran his fastest mile of the race passing a number of competitors on the way.  Miller finished in thirty-fifth place with a time of 22:02.  Kolck was five places back finishing in 22:43.  2A number one ranked Danville-New London took the top five spots for a perfect score of 15 to win the team title.  Ty Carr was the individual winner finishing in 17:27.

The Hillcrest Academy girls and boys cross country teams will compete in the 1A state qualifier meet hosted by Pekin at Wildwood park in Ottumwa October 22 at 4:00 p.m. The top two teams and ten individuals in each race qualify to advance to the state meet held in Fort Dodge Saturday October 31.  Come show your support for the Ravens!
