Hillcrest Academy hosts its annual Invitational Cross Country meet

Hillcrest Academy hosted its annual Invitational Cross Country meet Monday on campus. The meet featured two junior high school races and four high school races.  453 runners finished the six races.  Fourteen high schools competed in the high school races. Danville-New London won the boys team race in a tight battle with Pella and Solon.  Junior Collin Miller led the Hillcrest Ravens placing forty-fifth in 20:42.  Junior Jorge Canchola placed fifty-second in 21:34.  Senior Will Kolck placed fifty-seventh in 22:09.  All three team members ran the course faster than they did at the Early Bird meet one month earlier.  Canchola had the biggest improvement taking two minutes off his Early Bird time.  Juniors Ty Carr and Julian Alexander of Danville-New London were first and second.  Ty Carr now holds the course record at 17:06.21.

The Lady Ravens placed ninth of the nine full teams in the girls varsity race.  Junior Leah Bontrager led the way placing twenty-sixth in 22:30.  Julia Boller ran a season best time of 26:17 to place fifty-fourth.  Senior Kennedy Roth had a good race finishing in 28:20 and placing fifty-seventh.  Taryn Leichty was next for the Ravens placing sixty-second in 29:38.  Hannah Chalupa took nearly five minutes off her time on the same course at the Early Bird meet one month earlier.  Her time was 35:38 for sixty-sixth place.  Senior Madeline Fox placed thirteenth in the junior varsity race in a season best time of 23:42.  Mid-Prairie took the team title and the top three individual spots.  Danielle Hostetler won in 19:55 with twins, Jaden and Sydney Yoder close behind in 20:01 and 20:02.

The Hillcrest Academy teams have their next competition at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference meet at River View Country Club in Van Buren this Thursday, October 8th.
