Gather: Telling the story of our school one plate at a time.

Have you ever wanted to make the chili and cheese sandwiches like you had while attending the traditional Chili Supper as a kid? Or maybe you would like to try and make apple fritters at home like the ones made by our PTO at the Kalona Fall Festival? Now’s your chance to do it and take home a piece of school history that will bring back memories one plate at a time.

One of the ways we are celebrating the 75 year anniversary of our school is to publish a cookbook. In the words of local historian, Frank Yoder ‘69 who is writing the preface to the book, “A recipe is a gift. The recipes in this collection are gifts from members of the Hillcrest Academy community. Creating a cookbook is a fitting way to celebrate because these recipes represent connections among individuals, connections that are a fundamental part of the Hillcrest Academy community.” As Frank mentions, this isn’t your run of the mill cookbook. Gather: Telling the story of our school one plate at a time captures our history through the lens of food, conversations, stories, and photos symbolizing the connection we all have with our school and with each other.

Pre-ordered books will be either shipped or can be picked up at the school. And if you forgot to order a book, no worries. A small supply of books will be available to purchase at the school. Email Jeremy Ours jours@hillcrestravens.org with questions.
