Ravens cross country continues to record season best times

Junior Collin Miller was the Hillcrest Ravens number one for the second time this season at the Stormin’ Pointer Invitational in Center Point on Tuesday.  Miller paced his teammates, Will Kolck and Jorge Canchola, through the first mile in 6:40.  He went on to finish the 5 kilometer course in 21:13.  That placed him thirty-fifth in the field of eighty-one finishers.  Kolck placed forty-fourth in 21:48 and Canchola placed forty-seventh in 21:59.  All three recorded season best times.  Eli Larson of Center Point-Urbana won the race in 16:28.  Marion won the team title by six points over Center Point-Urbana.

The Hillcrest Raven women cross country team posted a team score for the first time this season placing fifth out of six full teams at the Stormin’ Pointer Invitational in Center Point on Tuesday.  Leah Bontrager led the way with a strong seventh place finish and a time of 22:04.  “Leah really turned it on after the first mile running her second mile faster than the first. And running the final 1.105 mile at an even faster pace.”  Julia Boller was next for the Ravens taking over four minutes off her time on this course last year.  Boller placed thirty-fourth in 26:28.  Taryn Leichty had a good day placing fifty-fourth in 30:43.  Kennedy Roth was next placing fifty-fifth in 31:25.  Hannah Chalupa took two minutes off her previous best placing sixty-first in 38:22.  Marion won the team title.  Kay Fett of Center Point-Urbana was the individual winner in 20:27

The cross country teams will hosted next by Iowa City High on October 1 at the University of Iowa Ashton Cross Country course in Iowa City.
