Hillcrest started off the morning shaky as they dropped both sets to Winfield Mount Union, 10-21 and 11-21. The upside of this match was the fact that the girls successfully served 18 of their 21 serves in bounds, for a serving efficiency of 85 percent. After playing Winfield Mount Union, the girls put up a fight against Mount Pleasant – unfortunately losing in two sets: 17-21 and 11-21. The highlights of the match were the 10 digs a piece that both Malia Sedlacek and Grace Miller had. The girls started out ‘hot’ during the game, but fizzled out during the second match. Having to play back to back, the loss lit a fire under the girls as they geared up to play Lisbon. The girls ended up losing in two sets, 14-21 and 13-21. Highlights included Norah Yoder leading in assists with seven for the match, with Yanitza Gutierrez having four. Miller also led the team in digs for the match with 12. The next match ended with the Ravens earning their first win of the season. They won in two sets against Midland with scores of 21-17 and 21-15. Highlights of this match included Gutierrez successfully serving 11 out of her 12 serves, including one ace, while both Yoder and Sedlacek successfully served eight for eight. Esther Hughes led the team in kills with four and Yoder led the team is assists with six. Miller led the team in digs with eight, followed by Evelyn Gerber and Sedlacek who both had five. Sophie Marshall and Hughes had timely blocks for the team as well – Marshall ended the match with two and Hughes had one. Lastly, the Ravens ended the tournament playing Wilton; losing in two sets – 7-21 and 6-21.
