Volleyball falls to Mediapolis after hard fought game

Evelyn Gerber & Yani Gutierrez

Although the night started out a little bumpy for the Ravens volleyball team, the girls fought back in games two and three, in order to force a game four out of Mediapolis, eventually losing the match one set to three sets. This was the second time in 13 years that the Ravens won a set against the Bullets! The set scores were: 15-25, 19-25, 25-23, and 14-25. After the rough start to the night, the girls came together to ignite their fire and came back with vigor at the end of game two, bringing their fire with them to take game three. Leading serving on the night was Grace Miller, successfully serving 19 out of her 21 serves, with five aces. Right behind Miller was Yanitza Gutierrez, successfully serving 17 out of her 18 serves. Leading kills on the night was Esther Hughes with 10, followed by Malia Sedlacek who had six kills, Gutierrez and Evelyn Gerber with two kills a piece, and Sophie Marshall and Norah Yoder both having a single kill.  Assisting those kills was both Gutierrez and Yoder.  Gutierrez led with 10, while Yoder finished the night with eight. To round out the stats, Miller led the team with 18 digs for the match, followed by Gerber who had 12, Yoder who had 10, Sedlacek and Gutierrez who each had seven, Hughes with two, and Marshall who had one. The Ravens play again this Saturday, September 12, at the Wilton tournament against Winfield Mount Union, Mount Pleasant, Burlington, Midland, and Wilton. The girls are hungry for their first match win and will be fighting for it this weekend.
