Ravens get big win at home

Hillcrest scored a big win over Wapello Tuesday in the friendly confines of Hillcrest Union, defeating the Indians 62-40. The Ravens trailed 10-9 after one period and then outscored the Indians 16-10 in the second frame to gain a 25-20 advantage at intermission. Hillcrest got separation in the third period to lead 42-30 and then outscored Wapello 20-10 in the fourth quarter to pull away for the win. The Indians defeated Hillcrest 57-43 in December.

Kobe Borntrager

Kobe Borntrager and Eli Ours each scored 18 points to lead the way for Hillcrest, and Noah Miller tallied 14 points, including 6-6 from the charity stripe. John Hughes followed with six points and Aaron Hershberger, Will Kolck and Aidan Yoder completed the scoring with two points apiece. Ours picked up six steals, Hershberger had four and Miller had three steals. Borntrager and Hughes had five rebounds apiece. Miller had four assists and Ours and Borntrager each had three.

Coach Dwight Gingerich said “this was a really good win for our team right now, and we were able to take advantage of the fact Wapello missed a key player, as our defense came up with 19 steals on the evening. Each of our guys made excellent contributions.”

The win raises the Hillcrest mark to 7-6 in conference play, 7-7 overall.
