Boys win at Winfield
Eli Ours was on fire early, hitting four treys to spark Hillcrest to a 20-11 lead after one quarter on the way to a 59-44 win in Winfield Thursday evening. The Ravens then built the margin to 38-22 at the half. The Wolves fought back with a run of their own, and cut the margin to eight at 48-40 with four minutes to play before Hillcrest went on an 11-2 run to seal the win.
Ours and Kobe Borntrager led the way with 20 points apiece for the Ravens. Noah Miller added six points, Luke Schrock and Will Kolck each connected on a trey, and John Hughes also finished with three points. Aaron Hershberger and Drew Blauvelt added two points apiece to complete the scoring. Ours and Miller each had three assists, Borntrager pulled down five rebounds and Hughes had five boards.
Coach Dwight Gingerich said “Winfield is almost always a difficult place to play, so the good start was key. We were able to weather their run and finish strong. It was good to once again get key contributions from a lot of different people.”
The win moves Hillcrest to 8-6 in conference play, 8-7 overall. The Ravens play next on Monday at Highland, and then wrap up conference play with Columbus coming to Hillcrest Union Tuesday for Senior Night.
