Ravens lose to New London

The Hillcrest Academy Ravens hosted New London in a non-divisional game Saturday and it was the Tigers who gained the 53-34 win. The score was 4-4 after two minutes of play, and then New London turned it up to lead 14-8 after one quarter. The Ravens struggled to score in the second quarter and trailed 29-14 at the half.

New London nailed a three to start the third period and scored the next three baskets to lead 38-14 before Hillcrest got things going. The Ravens cut the margin to 41-27 with six minutes left and then narrowed it to twelve, but could get no closer down the stretch.

Eli Ours led the Hillcrest attack with 13 points, and Kobe Borntrager scored nine points. Borntrager had a team-high six rebounds and Noah Miller dished for three assists.

Coach Dwight Gingerich said “we struggled to find a good rhythm, and when we finally found it, we played well. Credit New London, their quickness and length bothered us. Turning the ball over 19 times and shooting 34 percent makes it tough. This game has a chance to really help us improve, and I’m glad we had the opportunity to play them now. ”

The loss drops Hillcrest to 4-4 on the season. The Ravens return to conference action Tuesday, as league leading Highland comes to Hillcrest Union.
