Boys fall to Wapello

Hillcrest took to the road Tuesday to Wapello and suffered a 57-43 loss to the Indians. Wapello jumped to a 10-0 lead and led 10-6 after one quarter. After Hillcrest scored one more bucket to close to 10-8, Wapello went on another run and let 22-14 at the half. The third quarter saw Wapello outscore the Ravens 14-12 to lead 36-26 after three. The Indians outscored Hillcrest 23-19 in the fourth period to pull away for the win.

Kobe Borntrager and John Hughes led the way with 12 points apiece for the Ravens. Eli Ours scored seven points, including a three, and Drew Blauvelt added six points. Noah Miller had four points and London Schrock had two points to complete the scoring. Borntrager and Hughes each pulled down six rebounds and Miller had five. Ours dished for three assists and Blauvelt had two, and Borntrager and Schrock had two steals apiece.

Coach Dwight Gingerich said “every night out in our league will be a terrific challenge. We struggled to find a flow early and make shots. We got better offensively as the game progressed, and gave up some buckets playing from behind. Digging ourselves in a hole made it very difficult.”

Hillcrest drops to 2-3 on the season and is in action next on Friday as Winfield-Mt. Union comes to Hillcrest Union for Alumni Night.
