Hillcrest receives Trees for Kids grant

Plant Science students help DNR Forester Mark Vitosh plant the trees.

Hillcrest Academy has recently received a Trees for Kids grant in the amount of $2491.25 from the Iowa DNR to plant several replacement trees on the school grounds (to replace trees that are dying) as well as for a small orchard to be tended by present and future agriculture classes, and mulch for all trees.  Students in Plant Science planted the trees accompanied by DNR Forester Mark Vitosh on Wednesday, October 2nd, and additional maintenance and mulching will be conducted by the Plant Science and Intro to Agriculture classes this fall.

Plant Science students who helped plant the trees were Julia Boller, Leah Bontrager, Isabel Canchola, Sarann Durflinger, Abby Fritz, Esther Hughes and Kaylee Shafer.
