Chapel: Two week focus on Creation Care

Chapel Report for September 16-27, 2019
The past two weeks for chapel at Hillcrest Academy, we have been focusing on the topic of Creation Care. Our world is a generous gift from God to be cared for in the way we care for a precious gift from a loved one.
Before we began this emphasis, on Monday, the 16th, we hosted five Mennonite College representatives who shared about each of their colleges through an informative game.
On Tuesday, we met in small groups for our chapel time.
Wednesday’s chapel time was based on Psalm 104. Sophie Marshall led us in a devotional on this Psalm that discussing God’s activity in creation. Before we started, we did an activity that illustrated the interdependence of all life on the earth.
On Thursday, Jesse Slater shared some thoughts and ideas on caring for the environment by reducing our negative impact on the world in light of the changes happening in the climate.
Friday’s chapel was spent out of doors in observing the trees around campus.

On Monday, September 23, we watched a video done by Bob Ross, the painter, as he was highlighting his observations of a scene in nature.
Tuesday’s chapel time was done in small groups.
On Wednesday, we heard from Dick and Jane Yoder Short on how they are caring for God’s creation through gardening and solar panels.
Thursday was a recap of what we explored over the last number of chapels on creation care. We closed by reading through Psalm 104 again.
Friday’s chapel featured the Hillcrest Praise Band for the first time this school year, leading with the following songs: Thrive, Lean On Me, Praise You in the Storm, Glorious Day, Diamonds, and Waterfall.
