Cross country teams compete at Fairfield
Sophomore Leah Bontrager led the Hillcrest Ravens girls team to sixth place in the eight team field in Fairfield Thursday at Waterworks Park on the outskirts of Fairfield. . Bontrager placed eleventh overall with a time of 23:34. Sarena Gerber came in next for the team placing seventeenth in 24:18. Sophomore Chloe Staley made her debut with the Ravens cross country team making a huge contribution by being the team’s third runner. She placed thirty-seventh in 28:19. Freshman Taryn Leichty was one place back in 28:43. Julia Boller rounded out the scoring placing forty-second in 29:25. Ainsley Shaw placed fifty-third in 42:22. Chariton won the team title by three points over Pekin. Addison Parrott of Danville-New London won the individual title in 21:00. The Ravens compete next at Knoll Ridge Country club in North English on Tuesday, September 17.

Junior Colby Harris led the Hillcrest Ravens Thursday at the Fairfield invitational cross country meet. Harris was the team’s first finisher placing thirty-fifth with a time of 21:52 on the 4.90 kilometer course. Harris made a big improvement over his race last week at the Hillcrest Early Bird meet held on campus. Jesse Slater finished next for the team placing forty-eighth in 23:34. Sophomore Owen Swartzendruber made the team’s biggest improvement over the Early Bird meet. He moved from being the team’s number five runner to the third position. He placed fiftieth in 23:58. Collin Miller was fifty-fifth in 24:23. Toby Chen rounded out the scoring for the Ravens placing fifty-eighth in 25:22. The Ravens placed tenth out of ten full teams. Colten Glosser of Pekin was the individual winner finishing in 17:17. Danville-New London won the team title of the boys A race which consisted of 1A and 2A teams.
