Randy Horst Featured Artist

IMS art gallery is featuring the artwork of Randy Horst, who is currently a Goshen College Art professor. His show is titled, “Inside Voice”, which uses biblical characters as a backdrop to explore a variety of human emotion and psychology.  Randy’s work carefully captures human expressions and augments the emotion with a variety of expressive abstract and symbolic elements.

“I’m most interested in psychological portraits that study the human condition. I’m not attempting an historical representation nor narrative. Rather the stories of Biblical and Christian characters provide me with a starting point from which to explore our emotional responses to life’s challenges, to our expectations about who we are and how we’d like our lives to be, and to our encounters with the divine. My drawings are portraits that try to place people in a visual and psychological space inspired by the life experiences and circumstances of Biblical and Christian characters.”

Randy Horst is a 1983 graduate of Goshen College in Indiana with a BA in Art Education. He has an MFA in Drawing from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He has taught Art at Bowling Green State University, the University of Montana Western, and is currently teaching at Goshen College where he teaches the 2-D Studio classes, Art History, Art Education, and Graphic Design. He also enjoys international travel and has led educational trips to England, France, Italy, and Spain.

Randy has also worked professionally as a graphic designer and served as the Art Director for Mennonite Mutual Aid (now Everence) and Great Harvest Bread Company.
