Small Engines & Welding Class Sparks Interest

This semester we have two sections of Small Engines & Welding with 8 students per section all under the supervision of instructor, Mike Servino-Patterson. After spending 6 weeks in the disassembly and reassembly of small Honda engines, we began a welding component, which is now in its 4th week. We have been very grateful for the assistance of Stan Jones with the 1st hour class and Larry Detweiler with the 8th hour class, experienced welders who have assisted greatly sharing techniques with the students. With 5 arc welders set up in the shop we burned through a lot of rods but all students have greatly increased their skills in arc welding. The 8th hour class is currently working on final projects (where students show proficiency in three welds on one piece) while the 1st hour class is finishing an outside project brought to us by Brad McGowan of Frytown, welding a tripod for holding up grave stones, which will assist Brad greatly in his volunteer work maintaining the Frytown Cemetery.
