Ravens Fly By Falcons in Friday Superconference Sweep

The Hillcrest Academy Raven boys and girls basketball teams made a business trip to Letts Friday, putting together a sweep of the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons. The Raven girls opened the night with a 57-53 victory. Hillcrest trailed 16-14 after one, but held a 27-24 lead at the break. The Falcons see-sawed back up 41-37 going to the fourth and remained on top by three with just under a minute to go, but the Ravens didn’t falter finishing out the win. Hillcrest grabbed 28 rebounds, snagged 14 steals and dished out 12 assists. Malia Yoder led the scoring with 21 points, to go with a game high six assists. Claire Withrow scored 18, Niva Helmuth had seven rebounds and Lydia Beachy and Delaney Shaw four steals each. Hillcrest improved to 10-8 overall with the win and 8-7 in the Superconference as L-M dipped to 5-13 and 5-10 respectively.
The night cap was all Ravens from the jump in a 76-48 lashing of L-M. Hillcrest was up 13-11 after one, but the offense took off from there. A 25 point second quarter had the Ravens out to a 38-28 lead at half. Hillcrest rolled to a 20-6 run that spanned the full third quarter to build a 58-34 advantage going to the fourth to put the game away. The Ravens shot a blistering 53% from the floor, knocked down eight threes, had an incredible 26 team assists and 11 steals. Seth Ours scored 22 to lead the way, including six made threes.
