Shaw’s offensive punch and Yoder’s 200th career strikeout, not enough to withstand the Bulletes at Mediapolis
The Raven’s offense got the lead on the board in the top half of the 1st inning when a hard hit ground ball by Lydia Beachy forces an errant throw which allows Malia Yoder to score her first of 3 runs on the night after singling herself to reach safely. However, the Mediapolis bats came back in a fury in their own half of the inning to notch 4 runs and take the lead 4-1. However, the Ravens battled back putting runners on all three bases for junior Delaney Shaw who took an inside fastball and ripped it to the left-center wall for a base clearing double and tying the score. Mediapolis kept putting pressure on our defense though all night, breaking the tie in their home half of the 2nd inning and going up 6-4. Hillcrest would answer again in the top half of the 4th, junior Morgyn Nafziger scores after reaching base on an error and scoring on one too when another Malia Yoder single helps allow that to happen. Shaw then drove Malia home again with a hard hit ground ball back up the middle making the score 7-6, Mediapolis. However, that was all the scoring the Raven offense to could get on the night as they drop a close one 9-6 in Mediapolis.
Malia Yoder pitched extremely well, striking out 9 on the night and surpassing 200 strikeouts for her career inside the circle for Hillcrest. Delaney Shaw ended the night with 4 RBIs and 2 hits. Malia Yoder had 2 hits and 3 runs scored and Morgyn Nafziger had a hit and 2 runs scored. The Ravens are back in action at home tonight (Tuesday) against North Division foe Columbus. The Junior Varsity game starts at 5:30pm, with the varsity game to follow. Then, day-game softball will be back at Hillcrest this week on Wednesday, as the Ravens host New London with a varsity first pitch at 1pm and the JV game to follow.
The Raven’s will then travel to Mount Mercy University to host Winfield-Mt. Union at this neutral site with the JV starting a shortened game at 6:00pm and the varsity game to follow. The all-turf field at Mount Mercy is an exciting venue for the girls to play on and for fans to experience. Go Ravens!
