Scott Siblings Shine: Owen Takes Third in Long Jump, Rya Clocks Personal Best in 100m Dash
Sophomore Owen Scott placed third in the long jump at the Iowa State Track and Field Meet Thursday at Drake stadium in Des Moines. Scott’s first jump was twenty-one feet 7.75 inches which earned him the third spot in the 1A long jump. This is his best jump ever.
Sophomore Rya Scott had her fastest time ever in the 100 meter dash. Her time of 12.69 seconds was the sixth best time among 1A runners.
The top eight will face off in the finals Saturday at 12:45 p.m. Scott also placed fifteenth in the 400 meter dash in 1:02.34. Her first two events of the day, the long jump and 200 meter dash, overlapped. Scott started with the long jump. Her first jump was a foul. Then she crossed the track to race the 200 meters. Scott finished in 26.80 seconds for nineteenth place. Rya immediately returned to the long jump for two more attempts. Her final jump was her best and measured fourteen feet .25 inches which placed her twenty-fourth.
Freshman Marie Yoder competed in the 3000 meter run. She placed sixteenth in 11:30.03.
