Record-Breaking Performances: Ravens Shine at Track and Field Qualifier Meet

Hillcrest Raven Track and Field at 1A State Qualifier at Sigourney, May 9, 2024
The Hillcrest Ravens track and field teams qualified for seven events to advance to the state track and field championships next week at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.  Rya Scott qualified in the 100, 200, and 400 meter dashes, as well as the long jump.  Owen Scott qualified in the long jump and high jump.  Marie Yoder qualified in the 3000 meter run.  The Ravens competed at the 1A state qualifier in Sigourney Thursday evening during on and off rain.  

The Ravens girls placed fourth in the field of fourteen teams.  Rya Scott led the way winning the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes.  Scott won the 100 meter dash in a personal best time of 12.91 seconds.  Morgyn Nafziger placed fourteenth in the event finishing in 14.51 seconds.  Scott also won the 200 meter dash.  Her time was 27.27 seconds.  Niva Helmuth placed sixth in the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.49 seconds.  Scott won the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:03.25.  Scott placed fourth in the long jump with her jump of fifteen feet 9.50 inches.  She qualified for the state meet on distance.  The cutoff was fifteen feet 7.50 inches.  Delaney Shaw just missed the cutoff jumping fifteen feet 6.75 inches.  This is a new personal best.  Marie Yoder was the winner of the 3000 meter run.  Her time was 11:17.75 seconds which is a new personal best.  Siena Stanerson placed fourth in 11:47.42.  Yoder placed second in the 1500 finishing in 5:21.23 missing the qualifying time cutoff by less than two seconds.  Stanerson placed sixth in the 1500 in 5:42.73.  Shaw also ran the 800 for the first time.  She placed twelfth in 3:03.26.  Helmuth had a huge personal best in the shot put throwing twenty-eight feet 3.50 inches to place eleventh.  This is more than two feet further than her previous best.  Nafziger, Helmuth, Natalie Meganathan and Shaw teamed up for the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 meter relays placing tenth in both.

Owen Scott had a great evening in the jumps.  His first long jump of twenty-one feet six inches is a new personal best.  That jump won the event by one inch.  Scott tied for second in the high jump clearing six feet even which ties his personal best.  Kale Bailey tied for sixth in the high jump clearing the bar at five feet eight inches.  Bailey also competed in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dashes.  His highest place came in the 400 meter dash.  He placed sixth with a time of 58.35 seconds.  Braden Hartsock placed eighth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 12:22.65.  He also completed the 1600 meter run finishing in a personal best time of 5:44.12.
