Track & Field Continues to Record Personal Bests

At Ekstrand Relays (WACO) April 27, 2023
The Ravens track and field teams competed well at the Ekstrand Relays in Wayland Thursday evening. The weather was perfect at 69 degrees under sunny skies with a light southerly breeze when the meet commenced. The girls team recorded six personal bests in seven open running events. Delaney Shaw ran the 400 in 1:08.21 to place second. Erin Bontrager also had a personal best in the 400 competing the one lap race in 1:18.26. Shaw placed third in the long jump with fourteen feet ten and three quarters inch. Anna Torok was fifth with thirteen feet seven and three quarters inch. Claire Withrow was fifth in the 800 meter run with a new personal best time of 2:56.86. The sprint medley team of Morgyn Nafziger, Bontrager, Withrow and Shaw placed fifth in 2:08.46. Torok and Bontrager both ran personal bests in the 200. Torok was sixth in 30.59. Bontrager was ninth in 32.41. Nafziger placed seventh in the 100 meter dash in 14.23, while Torok was eighth in a personal best 14.48 seconds. The Ravens placed ninth in the field of nine teams.

The boys team had three new members to facilitate competing in relays. The distance medley relay team of Mason Bender, Isaac Birky, Bryce Bailey and Jesse Blossom placed fifth in 4:27.58. The same group placed sixth in the sprint medley in 1:57.63. The men’s quartet also ran the 4 x 100 meter relay placing sixth in 53.13 seconds. Blossom also ran the 800 meter run to place fifth in 2:31.12. The Hillcrest men tied for seventh in the team race with Highland. The Ravens compete next at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference Meet May 4 in Wayland. WACO will also host the state qualifier meet May 11.
