People of Integrity: Chapel Nov. 7-25

For this time period for our chapel life at Hillcrest, we have had a variety of emphases. We began the first week with a theme of integrity.

On Monday, November 7, we explored the parable of the Shrewd manager from Luke 16:1-12. This parable of Jesus is probably one of the most confusing. We read through it by using a reader’s theatre and then discussed questions in small groups. Jesus’s use of parables was a way of encouraging people to keep seeking, keep listening for the revelation of God’s kingdom. Let those who have ears, let them hear.

Wednesday’s chapel featured Paul Wiebe from Iowa City. Paul shared with us his perspective of what it means to be a person of integrity.

We continued thinking about integrity on Thursday as we heard from Randy Rempel, father of senior Jace Rempel. Randy has a construction business and spoke about integrity in that business.

On Friday, we were led in worship through song by the Hillcrest Academy Praise Band.

On Monday, November 14, we viewed the documentary film entitled “The Upstanders.” The film discussed the harmful effects of bullying and how it can be dealt with and prevented.

To follow up from the previous day, we met in small groups and discussed what we learned from the film “The Upstanders.”

Ilham Umar Sanda presenting about her home country of Ghana

As part of International Education Week, the rest of the week we heard from three of our international students on each of the remaining days. Anna Torok from Romania shared on Wednesday, Ilham Umar Sanda from Ghana presented on Thursday, and Mariam Sow from Mali wrapped up our week. Each shared about their home countries through a visual and verbal presentation.

With Thanksgiving coming up, we had a shorter week. Monday’s chapel presented the opportunity for each of us to be thankful for our Hillcrest community through writing affirmation notes to each other.

Tuesday’s chapel time was spent in small groups.

We wrapped up the school week on Wednesday with a hymn sing featuring songs of thankfulness.
