Ravens defeat Central Lee

Sophomore Andrew Starr watches while Junior Grant Bender clears the ball.

For the first time this season, the Ravens took the soccer field in pleasant conditions with temperatures in the 60’s and almost no wind. Once used to the pleasant conditions the team settled down, worked hard on the defensive end and created numerous good scoring chances, finally capitalizing midway through the second period. Taking the ball about 35 yards out, Diego Ramos did his Lionel Messi impersonation, dribbling around and through several players before shooting to the near post and beating the keeper.

The defense led by Grant Bender, Mason Bender, Andrew Starr, and Seth Ours, along with Bryce Bailey and Isaac Lybeck did their best to limit Central Lee’s chances. Those shots that did get through were gobbled up by goalie, Aiden Krabill who recorded three saves in getting the shutout.

Midfielders, Jorge Canchola, Oscar Flores-Calix, Gabe Bruns and Jesse Blossom had nice games as they helped establish and maintain possession. While the match was a defensive struggle, forwards Collin Miller and Micah Gerber, created several scoring opportunities.

Hillcrest moves 2-1 in conference and 3-3 overall. Hillcrest returns to action Friday hosting Danville.  Hillcrest travels to Columbus, Monday in another conference matchup.
