Ravens Close Basketball Season With Awards and Honors
The Hillcrest Ravens basketball team picked up the following honors and awards:
All-Substate 5 Honor:
Hillcrest Academy senior guard Eli Ours has been named to the eight-man All-Substate 5 Team. Ours recently completed a stellar career for the Ravens, finishing as the number four all-time scorer in school history. Also selected to the team were Austin Hilmer, and Tate Haughenbury from North Linn, Brody Ward from Iowa Valley, Ben DeMeulenaere from Belle Plaine, Taurice Grant from Mesquakie, Hunter Caves from Alburnett, and Kaden Hall from English Valleys.
All-Conference Honors:
The Ravens had five players receive All-Conference recognition, led by unanimous First Team selection Eli Ours. The senior point guard averaged 16.4 points a game and finished his career with 1187 points, good for fourth all-time in school history. Ours had a league leading 54 three-point field goals, was third in scoring average, third in assists and third in steals. Senior John Hughes was also selected to the First Team. Hughes was the second leading scorer for Hillcrest at 11.2 points a game while shooting 54.8 percent from the floor, good for third in the conference.
Junior Noah Miller picked up Second Team honors. The veteran guard was a heady defensive presence and key component for the Ravens, and second to Ours in assist average. Senior Aaron Hershberger and sophomore Grant Bender received Honorable Mention honors. Hershberger tied Hughes for team rebounding honors and Bender was third in the conference in free throw percentage at 78.6 and second to Ours in steals.
