Feb. 15 – 19 Chapels Introduce Black History Month & Lent

Our chapels this week involved a variety of events, the beginning of Lent and Black History month.

On Monday, since we had virtual learning because of weather, our chapel was also done virtually. We were introduced to the season of Lent which begins on Ash Wednesday.

There was no chapel on Tuesday. Wednesday’s chapel was our Ash Wednesday service, a service which starts the season of Lent. Lent is the 40 days prior to Easter in which Christians all over the world examine themselves and their relationship with God in preparation for Holy Week and Easter. All were given an opportunity to have ashes applied to their foreheads or hands to signify their acknowledgment of needing Jesus to save us.

Thursday’s chapel featured Bruce Harvey sharing with us his journey and advice in becoming kingdom people by being anti-racist. He encouraged us to educate ourselves about what it means to experience racism and to then do something about it.

On Friday, we viewed the program that the group “Parables” from Goshen College put together. The program consisted of songs, drama, and readings and was entitled, “Vessels”.
