Boys defeat Danville

Hillcrest scored a key non-conference road win Tuesday, defeating the Danville Bears in a 60-56 thriller. In what has been a good rivalry over a number of years between the two historically strong programs, this latest edition saw the Ravens overcome a 46-42 deficit with seven minutes to play for the victory.

Hillcrest grabbed the lead at 47-46 on a John Hughes jumper, and moments later, after Danville took the lead back, it was Eli Ours with a trey for the tie at 52 with three minutes remaining. The Ravens then trailed again at 54-52 before a Drew Blauvelt lay-up tied things up. The Ravens then took the lead for good, and sealed it with free throws from Ours down the stretch.

Ours led the way with 26 points on 9-12 from the floor, including four triples, and had seven steals and five assists. Kobe Borntrager tallied 14 points on 5-7 from the floor with six boards, and Blauvelt also reached double figures with 10 points and nabbed six rebounds. Hughes finished with seven points and Noah Miller had four assists to go with four points and three steals.

Coach Dwight Gingerich said “Danville really comes after you, and we simply turned the ball over too often. We got better dealing with the pressure, and did a much better job of taking what they gave us, and at the same time stayed aggressive. This was a really good team win on the road for our club right now.”

Hillcrest goes to 10-9 overall and closes out the regular season Friday with another non-conference opponent in HLV at Victor. This will be a boys doubleheader with the JV match-up starting at 6 PM.
